The u0022Unité Mixte de Physique CNRS/Thalesu0022, established in 1995, is a joint laboratory between the CNRS and the company Thales, associated to University Paris-Sud. It is located in the premises of Thales-RT in Palaiseau. The lab conducted pioneering studies on magnetic multilayers and giant magnetoresistance (2007 Physics Nobel Prize awarded to Albert Fert). This discovery had a strong impact on information technologies and launched a new field of research called spintronics. In this area, a significant effort in the lab over the last decade concerns the study of the dynamics of magnetization microwave nanodevices and the potential applications as new types of rf nano-sources for example. Another line of the lab's activity is the study of devices based on high-Tc oxide superconductors and their technology transfer to microwave applications.
