EQTC 2019 – European Quantum Technologies Conference

18-22 February 2019, Grenoble (France).
EQTC 2019 is the 1st international conference of the European Quantum Flagship.
Join EQTC 2019 for a full coverage of European and International most prominent and recent advances in quantum technologies.
Basic science, communication, computing, simulation, sensing areas will each be covered through plenary and parallel sessions, as well as poster sessions.
EQTC 2019 will provide you with a full update on the European Flagship momentum, strategies and opportunities including reports from and discussions with the Strategic Research Agenda, Innovation, and Education Working Groups of the Quantum Flagship.
EQTC 2019 will be a unique opportunity to meet the European and International academic and industrial QT communities, and also learn about other issues such as standardization and communication of quantum technologies towards the general public.

5èmes Journées « Micro et Nano Technologies pour l'Inertiel »

26 et 27 mars 2019, ONERA (Palaiseau, France).
La DGA et l'ONERA se proposent d'organiser les 26 et 27 mars 2019 les 5èmes Journées « Micro et Nano Technologies pour l'Inertiel ».
Ces journées se dérouleront sur le site de l'ONERA Palaiseau, 8 Chemin de la Hunière. Elles ont vocation à rassembler l'ensemble de la communauté française impliquée dans l'inertiel en créant un espace d'échange privilégié entre les donneurs d'ordre et les différents acteurs de l'industrie et du monde académique. Elles permettent aussi de dresser un état des lieux des développements , d'identifier les tendances et les nouveaux besoins applicatifs ou encore de détecter les éventuelles ruptures.
Pour ces 5èmes journées, nous nous proposons d'élargir les thèmes traditionnellement centrés sur les composants inertiels (accéléromètres, gyromètres, magnétomètres) et UMIs issus des micro/nano-technologies , aux composants temps/fréquence, et plus particulièrement axé sur l'apport des micro/nano technologies dans le domaine. Nous prévoyons aussi une session « rupture » autour de l'interférométrie à onde de matière, ses applications dans les mesures inertielles et les challenges associés dans la miniaturisation de ces composants.
Afin de bâtir le programme détaillé de ces journées, merci de nous faire part rapidement de vos intentions de communication. Le format retenu sera une communication orale de 20 mn, questions comprises, organisé en différentes sessions, avec une participation équilibrée entre les industriels/start-ups, les académiques et donneurs d'ordre.

High Precision Physics using an Optical Fibre Link and Optical Frequency Comb

The French Optical Society (Société Française d’Optique) is happy to announce a new series of annual international thematic schools devoted to hot topics in optics and photonics, held every year at Les Houches School of Physics.
After more than 15 years of development, optical fiber links and optical frequency combs are now sufficiently mature to be spread and shared outside the time/frequency metrological institutes. The school follows on from the international development of optical fiber links and its objective is thus to broadcast among a wide community of physicist the possibilities of high precision measurement thanks to the optical fiber transfer of an optical frequency reference, coupled to a frequency comb. These setup enable any laboratory to access an ultrastable and accurate reference frequency which opens the way to high-precision experiments in a wide range of physical domain. In order to benefit from its metrological performance, the optical reference frequency disseminated by optical fiber links can then be transferred to a wide spectral range from RF to UV frequencies thanks to optical frequency combs. In addition, these combs are ideal tools for high-resolution atomic and molecular spectroscopy.
The attendants will learn both the basics, performance and limitations of these two tools and how to take advantage of them for high-precision measurements. The applications in sight concern for instance tests of fundamental physics, atomic and molecular high-resolution spectroscopy using either stabilized lasers or new spectroscopic methods, frequency transfer for radio astronomy and geodesy and novel applications concerning Earth observation.

EFTS 2019 – European Frequency and Time Seminar

1-5 July 2019, Besançon (France).
The EFTS is an intensive full-week seminar intended to provide education and training with lectures and laboratory sessions. It targets a broad audience: Engineers, Ph.D. Students, Post-doc Fellows, Young Scientists, Newcomers, etc.
This seminar is original in the following:

  • Broad spectrum of topics related to time and frequency
  • Broad target audience, yet keeping high level education
  • Balance between academic and applied issues
  • True laboratory sessions (as opposite to demos). The attendees are expected to practice on a wide range of instruments made available.
At the 2019 EFTS, we plan 23 lectures, 12 H labs in small groups, visits at the Femto-ST Institute and the Observatory of Besancon, social events, and an Astronomy Session on the "exact time" from stars.
This is a preliminary announcement only. Registrations will only open at the end of January. However, pre-registrations (no invoice issued) are welcome.

ESA Open Invitation to tender "Techniques for spoofing detection and mitigation in aeronautical receivers"

Open GNSS signal authentication is one of the main future challenges that the GNSS community will have to face in order to support safety critical applications. One of the major evolutions proposed for the Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) systems is toprovide authentication services to their users. This evolution is still under debate in international fora, therefore this activityproposes to investigate the issue starting from the consolidation of the spoofing scenarios and the potential anti-spoofing techniques that can be integrated in an airborne navigation system. The activity consists of the following tasks-Consolidate the spoofing threat applicable scenarios for aeronautical users-Define the figures of merits to base the analysis of the spoofing impact-Develop innovative receiver algorithms for GNSS stand-alone and GNSS hybridized with other sensors-Consolidate the performance of the proposed techniques through analysis and simulation-Develop the necessary tools to support the objectives of this activityThe activity will provide input to the consolidation of the roadmap for GALILEO and EGNOS evolutions.Procurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl. ESA Open Invitation to tender "GNSS/Non-GNSS sensor fusion for resilience in high-integrity aviation applications re-issue"

This EXPRO+ procurement is part of the NAVISP Programme, under Elelment 1, Work Plan 2018.The objective of this study is to investigate the benefits of sensors fusion of on-board aircraft sensors with GNSS, in order to overcome the current safety limitations ofGNSS (the protection levels and Time To Alert for example), to improve the system resilience to external perturbing factors, and toevaluate the impact this fusion would have on the user positioning algorithm.Sensors fusion is a promising path to overcome the performance limitations and improve the resilience of individual systems. The combination of GNSS with various types of additional measurements like ranging data (RA, LIDAR) or non ranging data (IMU, ADS, optical sensors) could lead to better, more robust position solutions and improve the situational awareness of the flight crew. The outcome of that study could help to define future GNSS mission requirements.

ESA Open Invitation to tender "GALILEO payload test bed"

This activity concerns the development of a Galileo Payload Test Bed in order to provide an early Proof-of-Concept of a Payload architecture that may be used to fulfil the Galileo Transition Satellites Requirements. The activity covers the domains of Advanced Navigation Signal-in-Space Generation together with the aspects of Advanced RF High Power Amplification and Antenna concepts, in order to support the Industrial evolution development activities for the next generation of Navigation Satellites in Europe. The main objective of this activity aims at investigating in the early phase the critical Payload Architecture related aspects. This shall include an assessment on risk of its constituting elements, in terms of Flight maturity and Technology Readiness Level. The Proof-of-Concept shall be based on a Payload Test Bed hardware, complemented with a mandatory extensive set of Tests, including testing at radiated level, Verification and Validation activities. The activity will be subject to Open Competition for all economic operators in accordance to EU procurement rules provided that the economic operator complies to the security aspects, PRS authorisation and participating conditions as per ITT documentation to be published.

Ingénieur de Recherche expert en développement d'expérimentation

Plateforme Oscillator-IMP (Besançon, France).
Conception, développement, perfectionnement des méthodes et instruments utilisés pour le transfert de temps et de fréquence (GNSS (GPS, Galileo), TWSTFT, liens fibrés (REFIMEVE, White Rabbit)) ; assurer le suivi et la traçabilité métrologiques des équipements existant de la plateforme ; assurer le suivi et l'évolution des outils de traitement de données utilisés.
Assurer la constance opérationnelle, la disponibilité et les performances des références de temps et de fréquence élaborées et maintenues au sein de l'infrastructure en lien avec le laboratoire primaire (Syrte) à l'observatoire de Paris. Assurer la continuité et la qualité des services d'observation SO1 de l'INSU et notamment la participation de l'infrastructure aux références nationales de temps et de fréquence.
Assurer l'évolution des moyens et méthodes utilisées, nécessaire pour accompagner l'amélioration constante des : performances des étalons de temps et de fréquence, ainsi que des moyens et méthodes de mesure développés et/ou opérés par le laboratoire dans le cadre de son accréditation métrologique.

Post-doctorat en gravimétrie à atomes froids

Muquans et projet FET-OPEN NEWTON-g (Sicily, Italy).
Dans le cadre du projet FET-OPEN NEWTON-g, Muquans va déployer sur le volcan Etna un gravimètre basé sur l’interférométrie atomique avec des atomes de Rb refroidis par laser. L’objectif global de NEWTON-g est de développer et d’opérer le premier imageur de gravité au monde.
Un poste de post-doc (3 ans) s’ouvre en Sicile dans le cadre de ce projet. Le candidat participera à la coordination du déploiement de l’imageur gravi sur l’Etna (Gravi MEMs et AQG), à sa mise en service et au traitement des données.
Profil recherché : ingénieur-docteur expérimentaliste. Une expérience en instrumentation est préférable. Les qualités de prises d’initiative, d’autonomie et de curiosité seront essentielles. L’envie de découvrir la géophysique l’application des technologies quantiques pour l’imagerie du sous-sol est un facteur déterminant.

Post-doctoral position: "QND measurement on lattice atom interferometry with an optical clock transition"

Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
Quantum technology has opened up new frontiers in precision science and technology. In an atom interferometer, matter-waves are split and recombined using momentum exchange between photons and atoms, generating interference fringes which depend sensitively on forces encountered by atoms, allowing for high precision measurement of inertial effects and studies in fundamental physics. Most of the current state-of-the-art atom interferometric sensors use a pair of the hyperfine ground states or momentum states of Alkaline-metal atoms for atomic interference through a two-photon process in free space. Despite their success, they are currently reaching new challenges, limiting their capability for higher sensitivity and broader applications. Our research proposal is aiming to harvest these cutting-edge technologies, proposing an optical lattice guided atom interferometer based on a single photon process on the Strontium optical clock transition and to detect the interferometer states with quantum non-demolition measurement.
